August is salmon madness month on the Great Lakes, with Frankfort, Michigan being the shining star of the famous Lake Michigan salmon fishery. The fishing is simply unbelievable at times, with exciting action for adult Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon.
Since salmon fishing is so good, boat traffic is sometimes intense. Stormy Chinook routinely leaves the “pack” and fishes productive areas north of Frankfort that few boats ever visit.
