Port Austin, MichiganThe great early season fishery begins at Ice out, when hungry Trout and Salmon roam the shallow waters of southern Lake Huron in search of baitfish. Delicious Lake Trout, Coho Salmon, and Chinook make up most of the catch. In the Port Austin / Grindstone City area, the fishing continues to be nothing less than phenomenal in June and July when Whitefish, Walleye, Steelhead, Atlantics and a few Chinook Salmon add to the daily catch. The fishing remains awesome for Lake Trout, Steelhead and Walleye until fall. For a real treat, have your fresh fish cooked for you at Captain Morgan's Bar and Grill!

Fishing FrankfortAugust is salmon madness month on the Great Lakes, with Frankfort, Michigan being the shining star of the famous Lake Michigan salmon fishery. The fishing is simply unbelievable at times, with exciting action for adult Chinook and Coho Salmon.
Since fishing is so good, boat traffic is sometimes intense. Stormy Chinook routinely leaves the “pack” and fishes productive areas north of Frankfort that few boats ever visit.

Fishing Drummond Island Enjoy a truly unique Great Lakes fishing experience aboard Stormy Chinook at some rarely fished mid-lake shoals that Capt. Dan has experimented with and mastered. The tricky currents and steep drop-offs around Drummond Island, Michigan require experience to fish successfully, and Stormy Chinook has been fishing Drummond Island since 1985. When the offshore water is rough, the calmer near shore deep water around Drummond Island can be highly productive. Wind cancellations are rare.

The Stormy Chinook is a fully equipped 28 foot Albemarle Express, designed and outfitted with all the latest technology for offshore fishing. Albemarle boats have the highest possible standards for quality and safety. Built in Edenton, North Carolina, these boats have been tested and proven to withstand the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Hatteras, which is famous for high seas and treacherous navigation. The boat is fast, has a stand-up bathroom, and a heated enclosure for inclement weather.

Fishing Reports

Thank you to all my 2023 fishing guests. There were some positive changes to our fishery this year, especially on Lake Huron. The benefit of Coho Salmon plants are showing signs of success. In addition to Lake Trout and Walleye, we caught many Steelhead, Coho, Atlantic Salmon, and some Chinooks. The only problem is that the good Lake Trout fishing is now well offshore compared to years ago. On Lake Michigan, the Chinook fishery is strong, but occasionally unstable on some days, mainly depending on weather fronts. This has always been typical of Chinooks, though. My prediction is for 2024 to be similar, or a little better due to plants, and good health of the lakes.

on Lake Huron and Frankfort on Lake Michigan.

I'm Captain Dan Cruchon, a veteran of Great Lakes sport fishing who has chartered thousands of fishing guests since 1985. My knowledge and love for the sport of fishing has consistently resulted in guest satisfaction. It doesn't matter if you are experienced, or a novice at fishing, I will give you the personal attention you deserve to ensure a successful and enjoyable Great Lakes charter fishing experience.

I am a member of the Michigan Charter Boat Association, Thumb Area Captain's Association, and International Game Fish Association. My previous career as a full-time Firefighter, and Air Force Reservist is where I learned that honesty, integrity, and hard work is the key to earning people's trust. I can't always promise a full cooler of fish, but I will guarantee there is not another Captain anywhere who will put more effort into ensuring that you have memorable day catching fish on the Great Lakes.
